Founded in 2014 by sisters Sarah Campbell-Lloyd and Daphne Harman-Clarke, Yard Yoga was born from their vision to create a space that’s both beautiful and welcoming. They are passionate about making yoga accessible to all, believing that it's never too late to start. Whether you're looking to deepen your practice, enhance your wellbeing, or experience the unique benefits of our infrared heated studio, Yard Yoga is the perfect place to grow and thrive.

Our Studio

Our studio is nestled in the heart of Sussex, on the edge of the Ashdown Forest, in a beautifully converted Grain Store. The space retains its rustic charm, featuring natural materials throughout. During the renovation, we carefully salvaged and re-used many of the original features, preserving the character of the building.

We offer two studio spaces: one is heated with infrared panels for our hot yoga classes, while the other boasts a stunning vaulted ceiling, creating a unique atmosphere. Our welcoming reception area provides a space for students to gather before and after class.

We also have separate male and female changing rooms, each equipped with showers for your convenience.

Located above Hop Yard, an independent music venue known for its eclectic lineup of events, our studio enjoys a vibrant and lively energy. The variety of events draws a diverse crowd, contributing to the dynamic atmosphere of the entire yard.

At Yard Yoga, we’ve cultivated a thriving community where people from all walks of life come together to unwind, connect, and enjoy different spaces within our studio and beyond.

Hot Yoga and our environment

Hot yoga is one of our most popular classes for both beginners and advance yogis. The benefits of the Infrared heat allows for more flexibility and helps with injuries while strengthening joints and muscles. The heat also has a very detoxifying effect though sweating but also helping our organs and lymphatic system flush through.

At Yard Yoga we have developed a Hot Hatha yoga sequence which addresses all areas of the body without putting any strain anywhere. It is easy on the arms and wrists and therefore suitable for most people. There are many health benefits from practicing including detoxification, building strength and increasing flexibility.

We also have our Hot Flow yoga classes which are vinyasa based sequences. The classes are more challenging and dynamic. This is not a set sequence and will vary from class to class depending on the teacher.

HEATING

We have state of the art Infrared heating panels in the ceiling of our studio to heat you during your practice. The warmth that we feel from the Sun is infrared and it is a natural and safe form of energy, standing in the studio with the heaters set to room temperature feels like standing in the sunshine! Infrared penetrates into the top couple of centimeters of your skin to heat your body directly, it does not heat the air surrounding you.The room temperature starts at 30-32 degrees celsius and increases to about 36-38 degrees celcious.

Because infrared penetrates into your body it warms and stimulates your connective tissues, ligaments, blood in your capillaries, fat in the layers of your skin, your immune system, your cardiovascular system and your lymphatic system. Infrared is much more effective than conventional heating at stimulating your body. Being warmed up so effectively helps to loosen your joints and allows you to go deeper into your yoga practice. It also helps the body to naturally eliminate toxins that you may be storing, these are sweated out during class. Infrared is so effective it can help the body to heal from injuries, strains and pain. In combination with yoga practice it can help to heal scar tissue and skin problems. Infrared can help promote the metabolism when combined with yoga, it also gives your skin a healthy glow and leaves you feeling deeply relaxed.

FRESH AIR

Our air exchange system circulates fresh air from outside throughout the studio and removes the stale air to make sure you feel comfortable throughout your practice.

HUMIDITY

Controlling the humidity in the studio is very important to get the most out of your hot yoga practice. It doesn't matter how many people are in there sweating, the studio will remain at the correct level to keep you at your peak during your practice.

The class will vary every time and has a flow like quality to it. Both classes are great for building up strength while increasing flexibility.
